TV Shows

• The 'A' team
  Murdoc waltzing round the grounds of a VA hospital in an old style Posey and BA (Mr. T) refuses to release him.
• Airwolf, TV-Series: 1984-1986
  Episode "Echoes From the Past". MPEG thanks to Bunker in the UK. 2.6Mbyte MPEG movie excerpt.
• Alias, Prelude (2003), Season 3, Episode 7
  Sydney visits a doctor to seek help in recovering her lost memory. The doctor explains to her the dangers of the treatment and in doing so shows her a padded cell containing a man with a strange scar on his head.
• Alias, Taken (2004), Season 3, Episode 16
  A dangerous prisoner wearing a straitjacket and chains is escorted onto a plane at the beginning of the show. He escapes and crashes the plane.
• Allo Allo, Von Flockenstuffen In Command Season 7, TV-Series 1982-1992
  General Von Klinkerhoffen has a mental breakdown and is treated in the fruitcake ward while wearing a straitjacket through out untill he is rescued.
• Avengers, You'll catch your death
  Linda Thorson gets trussed-up in a standard white canvas lace-up straitjacket (its very loose and baggy). She could have simply wriggled out of the shapeless thing!
• Birds of Prey Pilot, 1973
  The straitjacket scene is at the end of the episode where the captured villain is wearing a Posey straitjacket in a glass chamber in Arkham asylum
• Banyon 1971
  Robert Forster plays a a private eye in the 30s. One episode had him investigating evil doings at an asylum. He's knocked out and comes to in a straitjacket in a padded cell in a straitjacket. He manages to knock out a guard, flee the room, run through a window and downtown. He eventually convinces a wino to unstrap him. Lots of good shots of the jacket.
• The Beverly Hillbillies Season 9, Episode 10, 'Shorty to the Rescue', December 1, 1970
  Jed wants to make a charitable donation, which of course Mr. Drysdale opposes. He has Miss Hathaway tied up in a straitjacket and gagged, and tells Jed that she's so opposed to the charity that she's had a mental breakdown, and the only way to cure her is to cancel the donation.
• The Big House: Folsom, The History Channel
  The episode shows in some detail one of the old straitjackets from the prison. It's leather and canvas, with internal sleeves, laces up the back, and a heavy waist belt.
• The Bionic Woman (Lindsey Wagner)
  Female wrestler in a front opening Melrose Straitjacket.
• Bizarre with John Byner
  Showtime Network. It started with showing a large padded cell. One by one, eight "patients" were thrown into the cell, all wearing old style roller buckle Posey straitjackets. The "patients" were in two rows, four in each row and they started to struggle with their straitjackets with a rhythmic music common on aerobic shows that were popular at the time. A title appeared on the screen, "Aerobics with the Disturbed will not be seen tonight so that we may bring you the following show..."
• Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Teacher's Pet" (first season)
  A quote from the futureslayers web site:

• Carnivāle Lonnigan, Texas Season 1
  The priest,Brother Justin, was being treated in a asylum. A rather long scene where a doctor interview him in a padded cell.
• Carnivāle Cheyenne, WY, Season 2
  Scudder is captured in a straitjacket with a hood in the middle of the show.
• Dark Angel, Love Among the Runes Season 2, Episode 20, (2002)
  2 prisoners are in a prison at the beginning of the show. One of them witness a strange ritual while his roommate struggle in a straitjacket with gag.
• Dr. Who., The Sun Makers, November 26 through December 17, 1977 (Four parts)
  Dr. Who and two others are in straitjackets. Dr. Who gets out, (as always) but it doesn't show him doing it.
• The Drew Carey Show Season finale
  Drew is committed to an insane asylum and restrained in a Posey straitjacket for most of the one hour episode.

  The family gets a baby sitter, Sir Larry Houdini, who is a escapologist. He invites the children to tie him up in a straitjacket with chains while explaining to them how he will escape.
• Hornblower: Mutiny 2001, TV
  Capt. James Sawyer has a mental breakdown. While he is under arrest he is wearing a straitjacket.
• Happy Days One episode features an appearance by the Amazing Randi. The straitjacket scene has Ritchie going to his hotel room, eventually he opens the curtains and you see a straitjacketed Randi hanging upside down outside.
• I Spy
  Both Culp and Cosby in straitjackets.
• The Incredible Hulk (Bill Bixby)
  Bixby discovers foul play whilst working in a mental hospital and ends up in an old style Posey, strapped to a padded bed in a padded cell and fights like hell to get out.
• The Invisible Man, The Catevari (Season 1, Episode 2)
  
• The Jeffersons Goerge goes to an instutition to make a delivery. He's mistaken to be an inmate and ends up in a straitjacket. Eventually Weezie comes to rescue him.
• Kids in the Hall (Canadian skit comedy show) episode that contained a skit about an escape artist who tried a straitjacket escape and was unable to get out. He ended up living in it, serving in WWII, and even starring in his own early fifties sitcom - all in the straitjacket. It was very funny as most of their stuff is.
• Kindred: The Embraced Episode 3
  
• Kung Fu: The Legend Continues Caine enters a mental institution and gets put into a straitjacket. Very nice shot of a straitjacket.
• MacGyver, A Prisoner of Conscience (1986), Season 1, Episode 20
  MacGyver admitted himself into Russia asylum to rescue a political figure. There are two (2) straitjacket scenes near the end of the episode. One in which the asylum head director is in a straitjacket when the patients take over the facility.
• Mannix
  Mannix investigates someone being wrongly held in a mental hospital, gets knocked out and comes round strapped to a bed in a straitjacket, but still manages to knock the Doctor out by charging and knocking him over. Great scene of Mannix (still straitjacketted) running through the hospital grounds.
• Medical Center
  Dr. Joe Gannon commits himself into a private mental hospital to investigate improper treatment of patients. He suspects that a female patient has a brain tumor and tries to get help for her. His efforts are seen as extreme behavior by the orderlies and is held in a choke hold by one orderly as the other calls for a sedative and straitjacket. When we next see Dr. Gannon he is in an unknown straitjacket without crotch strap or arm loops in a bed and is obviously drugged.
• Mission Impossible Martin Landau in what appears to be a Magicians straitjacket from Human restraint in a jail cell with padding! (Put the padding up, we don't want him to hurt himself).

• Monk, Mr. Monk Goes to the Asylum (2002),Original Air Date: 9 August 2002 (Season 1, Episode 6)
  The detective was having a mental breakdown and was getting treatment at mental hospital where he suspect a long forgotten death could be a unsolved murder. His investigation eventually lead him to be lock up in a padded cell in a straitjacket.

  (not confirmed) A doctor was locked up in a padded cell
• The Practice, Evil/Doers (2002), Season 6, Episode 20
  A Hannibal Lector wannabe is caught eating human flesh but did he kill the victim? He is wearing a straitjacket with a gag while being question by his lawyers.
• The Prisoner, Arrival: Episode 1.
  In one of the corridors of the hospital, a door with a round window catches the Prisoner's attention. Behind it he sees a long passage filled with red light. Straitjacketed patients sit motionlessly facing each other. The scene is immensely bizarre.

  Pierce Brosnan is straitjacketed.
• Sabrina, the Teenage WitchSabrina the Sandman (1999)
  (not confirmed) the principal is strapped into a straitjacket and dolly after counting too many peas?
• SCTV,
  One episode of the Canadian sketch comedy show SCTV (1983-1984) included an adaption of HARVEY, purportedly directed by Martin Scorcese. ( imdb.com lists the directors as John Blanchard, George Bloomfield, & Jim Drake II.) Martin Short plays the Jimmy Stewart character as a curly-haired Italian, and the skit ends with him in a hospital in a Posey straitjacket, as Harvey bursts in and blows away the doctors.

  Fran Parker (played by Jonathan LaPaglia) is in a straitjacket when he goes undercover into a mental hospital.

  In addition to the straitjacket parts, the episode also has some good mental ward scenes.
  
  
• Stargate SG-1, The Broca Divide (1997), Season 1, Episode 5
  A very short scene where the General was in a straitjacket after a virus which make people go crazy got loose in Stargate command center. (Not sure why, but ONLY the general was placed in a straitjacket)
• Starsky and Hutch
• Sabrina The Teenage Witch Friday the 13th
  The Aunts are explaining to Sabrina that once a year on Friday The Thirteenth a witch may tell a mortal that she is a witch. The scene then flashes back to when Hilda was dating Dr. Sigmund Freud and tells him that she is a witch by zapping up the pocket he so liked. We then she Hilda being carted off in what I believe is a Posey Straightjacket while the whole time she is telling Freud that she is perfectly sane.
• Superman Jimmy Olsen is tricked into a straitjacket by a circus escape artist. Similar to the long sleeves straitjacket but with rear buckles and no crotch strap.
• 3rd Rock from the Sun (1996)
  A TV-Series directed by Robert Berlinger and James Burrows (II). On one episode of this sitcom, the character played by French Stewart is seen straitjacketted and escapes offscreen.
• What the Butler Saw Director: Barry Davis, Writer: Joe Orton, (1987)
  Basil Fawlty's wife Sybill looked pretty good in a straitjacket and stockings in the TV-version of the bizarre Joe Orton play 'What the Butler Saw'! Of course she wasn't playing Sybill in this but another character who thought her husband (who ran an asylum) was being unfaithful to her.
• Wild Wild West Robert Conrad gets put into a canvas straitjacket and strung up upside down.
