This straitjacket is a German military issue from the WW2 era.  It was manufactured in 1942 as can be determined by reading the label that is found inside the jacket and reproduced below.  The jacket has a very unusual design.  It is made of a rather rough canvas with several unique features.  It has a pair of loops on the back for the ends of the sleaves to pass through. There are additional small loops on the sides of the arms.  More interesting is a set of long "tails" that hang down from both sides of the jackets.  These tails would be passed under the person's legs yielding considerable extra security.  The back fastens with laces and there are extra loops at the top of each shoulder.  It is not clear to us exactly how this jacket was to be worn.  It is much more complicated than a modern jacket.
