The living room was like the rest of the house, everything was painted white. The fireplace mantle was removed to provide access to the wall. This wall was sliced open to allow installation of the black iron gas lines. The gas line fits in the wall, and up to the crawl space. From here, it goes over to the dining room. The lights on either side of the mantle are gas, as is the center gasolier. There is a shut off for this whole line, where it enters the wall in front of the fireplace. The only time this gas line is "live" is when the gas lights are lit. The woodwork was all stripped. Originally I was going to do a "Faux" grain finish, but the paint build up was so great, it had to be removed. The old pine has a wonderful color, and is pretty evenly colored. Halogen side lights normally light the room. The freize and wainscoat paper are Bradbury and Bradbury.
